This website is a resource to educators of young children to design a rainforest unit. This covers topics such as the rainforest strata, weather in the rainforest, and plants and animals found in the rainforest. This has been created and based on the K-3 New Ohio Learning Standards as of Fall 2015 but can be used in other states and with other standards.
Many sections of this website will assist with different resources an elements for planning a rainforest unit. To the right are some fun videos that can be used in the classroom during the unit. The first video is an episode of The Magic School Bus that takes the students on a field trip to the rainforest to learn more about it. It includes factual information in an entertaining and engaging format. The second video takes children on a trip to the rainforest giving factual information and photographs of the rainforest. Useful Links This page is full of resources and other websites that may be helpful in planning and implementing a rainforest unit. Words to Know Here you can find key vocabulary terms for the unit. It should be noted that these need to be modified and thought about critically based on the students ages and needs. Key Concepts This is a basic concept planner that should be modified based on each classroom. It is important to not that these are the concepts that can be addressed during the unit, not lesson plans. Literature This includes fiction and nonfiction literature for children as well as resources for teachers and adults. NSTA Resources These are resources for teachers from the National Science Teachers Association. Membership may be required to access these materials. |
